DPS stands for "Damage per Second". The amount of damage you deal through a fight divided by the duration of the fight

What is sustained DPS?

Sustained DPS means that you will be able to attack uninterupted. And this is the value the calculator will present. However, this is not the absolute DPS. When fighting bosses, there are events, debuffs, spells and abilities that will delay your attacks. As an example, if you get stunned you only get to do 2 attacks over 10 seconds instead of 6 attacks, resulting in a lower DPS.
