Literature review on scandium in aluminium alloys

Background

The origin of this literatre review was a request from Ola Jensrud at Raufoss Technology back in 1995, as for whether I could put together an overview of the effects of Sc in Al alloys based on what I had learned so far in my Dr. Ing. work. This lead to a 14-page summary in Norwegian, distributed to a handful of people in Norway.

As the Dr. Ing. work proceeded I continuously searched the literature for published work on Sc in Al alloys (and I still do), and I decided to include a literature review in my thesis. The structure of the original work for O. Jensrud was largely preserved, but of course the content was heavily expanded. In order to be able to submit the thesis in time (2002), I had to round off the review a bit earlier that what I would prefer to.

After the thesis, I spent some odd evenings over the next 1-2 years for expanding, updating and revising the review, until it finally some time early in 2004 had reached a state suitable for publication. Encouraged by my supervisor, prof. Nils Ryum, I approached International Materials Reviews and fortunately they accepted to receive a submission. The rest is history, and the review appeared in issue no. 1 in 2005.

Acknowledgements

Over the years I have been in contact with numerous persons regarding the literature review. These are persons I have discussed the topic with, persons that have sent me articles on Sc in Al-alloys (either by request or as a response to the Al-Sc web pages) and persons that in some other way have shed ligth over this topic.

I feel a little bit bad for not taking the time to include an acknowledgemet for this in the literature review, and I want to make it up by doing so here on this web-page. Thank you everybody for your input. I hope I have not forgotten anybody:
