Excerpt from a mail J. Vetrano sent to me:
"Our work with Al-Mg-Sc and Al-Mg-Mn-Sc is just beginning finally. We received
the materials and have done some preliminary warm rolling and heat treatments.
We are hoping that the Sc precipitates can prevent recrystallization of a cold-
worked structure in the Al-Mg-Sc, and that they will alloy a fine grain size in
the Al-Mg-Mn-Sc alloy. The Mn additions cause large particles and I think they
will cause particle stimulated nucleation even with the fine Al3Sc precipitates
present. We have two objectives. One is to examine the superplastic
deformation of these two materials and the other is to study the process of
particle stimulated recrystallization itself. Hopefully these studies will be
successful and allow us to learn more about these processes."
