The Older CD + Upper
In 1996 the world discovered a new George Michael. A man who had been through much the last couple of years, changed himself dramatically. From being a young, cute heart throb with long bleeched hair and a cross earring, he was now an older man with short, dark hair, goatee and a new album - "Older".

The heartbreaking ballad "Jesus to a child" was released in 1996, and dedicated to his deceased lover, Anselmo Feleppa, who'd died a couple of years earlier from an AIDS-related brain haemmorhage. By the time they met none of them knew that he was HIV infected... George was tested and came out negative, but he lost his lover to the decease. He couldn't listen to any sad music for over a year after he died, and couldn't write a song for about 18 months. Then, one day, the whole lyrics to "Jesus to a child" just came to him in under an hour. Then he knew that he was ready to "move on"... "You have been loved" is about Anselmo's mother who George didn't met until his funeral. She was a heavy catholic, and even though this had happened to her son it didn't destroy her strong faith. "And if it's God who took her son, he cannot be the one living in her mind..." he sings. In the first chorus she's talking to him ("Take care my love, she said...") and in the 2nd chorus Anselmo's talking to him ("Take care my love, he said..." ) Even though he hadn't come out yet, he still did for anyone who cared to listen to him. The lyrics to these two songs and the dedication told everyone who even cared to look that he had loved and had been loved - by a man...

The whole "Older" album is dedicated to Anselmo and Antonio Carlos Jobim - the man behind the Brazilian song "Desafinado" - one of George´s duets...
He did a few videos too. And one if them is "Fastlove":
"I ain't Mr Right, but if you're looking for fastlove..." he sings and gets under this shower. He was so glad that it was in the end of the video, because it was such a laugh. They persuaded him to get under it, and because all the other dancers had been under it he felt like he had to... And we're glad he decided to do it...
He can decide whether he wants to look at dancing women, dancing men, men touching each other and women touching each other - by using a remote control specially constructed for the use of that... Hey, George! Why don't you send me one of those? :-)
He also did an MTV unplugged performance and his Mom was there, even though she was sick from lung-cancer. After "Freedom '90" he waved, said "Hello, Mom" and gave us the cutest, most from-the-heart smile we'd seen in years. For those who didn't know before, they surely knew now - he really loved his mother... About 6 months later she was dead...
