My Review (after getting the promo)
"I'll be your sexual freeek of the week! George Michael is back with what without doubt will be the new hit at the discos. It rocks, it swings, it's freekin'!
This is unlike anything George Michael's ever done. To be totally honest it's quite unlike anything I've ever heard. The background beat is impossible to describe, it's so well put together and complex that I'm sure it can be plucked apart into 20 different tracks. The details are mixed in a close to perfect mixup of sounds and rhythms, and anybody who's heard Daft Punk hears that they have been a part of this production that's just as cool as the title says.
The lyrics are something to themselves. A lot of "no" words as many would have put it, and if our dear cultural minister had this served into her lap, she wouldn't just ban the lyrics, but also the song and the man himself. Lucky for us, the mentioned person is most likely not to listen to anything more heavy than Grieg's greatest hits on vinyl, and thank God she doesn't have as much interfering with what we youngsters "screw up" our minds with as she'd like to.
Personally I think the lyrics are easy going when it comes to pervercity, but I can mention a couple of examples that speak for themselves - literally: "I'll be your sexual freak of the week (Ohh touch it)/I'll be your educational lover/Your one f*** fantasy", is how the chorus sounds. This is nothing. What do you think of this, for instance? "Come on kids/You know your mama and your daddy don't care/Don't be scared, it's a tits and ass world you gotta be prepared." Not so bad, huh? How about: "You got your speed connection. Free chat, f*** that, get a little harder"?
There's nothing to misunderstand. For once the Greek-English artist has written it straight out, and haven't filled the song with methaphores and pictures of things that means something totally different from what he sings. (Who would have thought that "I'm never gonna dance again/The way I danced with you" really means "I'm never gonna f*** anyone the way I did you?" All of a sudden Careless Whisper isn't that cute after all)
The song starts with a ringtone and a modem that is turned on, closely followed by this quite unique backgroundbeat that follows the slightly sensual voice of 38 year old George Michael throughout the whole song. At times he moans the lyrics out in such a way that one should think his better half was present during the recording. Of course, the whole song is about cybersex, and this is proved in the end when he breathes like a racinghorse while a busy signal ends it all...
If this is how the rest of the album is going to sound, I guess what's left is to welcome the man back to the life of one of the most wanted artists in the world. He will definitely get some new fans through this project, and not only "oldies" that have dominated his fan-crowd up until now. The last thing you should think is that George is about to turn 40, because this is music that will hit the youngsters right in their dancing-foot.
I was tempted to give this single a five, as it looks like the man gets enough "sex" (in Norwegian "six" is pronounced "sex"), but it wouldn't be fair as it really does deserve the best."

The Video - backstage
This is what happens backstage when filming a George Michael video. Any takers? ;-)
Watching the finished result. "Oh my God, did I do that...?"
The "See what I can do and get away with" grin.
