Daap

Daap (in
Norwegian meaning "baptism") plays old, Nordic hymns and folk music (Finnish,
Swedish and Norwegian). Daap plays both acoustic and electric
concerts.
The project started in 2003 in the Norwegian, Arctic town Vadsø. This town has throughout the history been populated by the indigenous
people, the Saami, settled by Norwegians, visited by Russian traders and
immigrated by Finnish farmers. This has all made a big influence on the culture
in Vadsø. Also, the religious movement of Lästadius made an important impact on
the people. Today, over 50 different nationalities and cultures all over the
world are represented in the town. Both the history and the culture today is
what Daap wants to reflect in the music.
In 2009 the project moved to Eidsvoll, south of Norway. But the influence from
Vadsø still remains.
