blue The plant was imported to Denmark during the iron age, and is the only 'northern plant' that gives some result when dueing blue. The colour is not very strong, and when there was possibilities for importing Indigo, the prodiction ceased. Indigo (Indigofera) This plant gives the best blue dye there is. Most of the Indigo one bys these days is synthetic, but the colour is the same. If you are going to buy real indigo, make a quick test. If the dye (shaped like a stone) sinks to the bottom of a glass of water, it is not indigo. Real Indigo will float close to the surface, and do not blend/melt into the water. In Norway, one also used Urin when dyeing wool. If you look at Husfliden, and the Man's bunad from Nordland. You can have 'potteblå' stickongs. You had men who had drinken a lot of alcohol. They urinated together, and I do not have the recipe, but I know that it smelled horribly, and took a lot of time. Sources: Dye With Plants / Farv med planter. |
