Creating a Medley of Songs in Technics Mode
| The Question: "How can I create my own medley of songs in Technics Mode?" |
There are two ways I know of doing this, one I use quite often: (1.) I step record all the chord sequences of songs, say a foxtrot (Red roses for blue lady), then I might put in chords for quickstep (music music music), and perhaps finally a march/gypsy tap (do what you do do well). Once I have programmed the total chord sequence (including intros & ending) I select the appropriate rhythms and put them into the panel memory on "expand" mode (retaining tempo rhythm voice & if need be key change etc). Then I go to the control track and work through the bars and press where I want each bank to change at the appropriate bar) eg: Bar 1 (intro) bank 1; (say 4 bar intro); bar 37 bank 2 (quickstep); bar 69 bank 3 (march etc). Then when that's done you can "playback" the "backing" which forms these 3 songs with the appropriate changed rhythms as the control track moves from bank to bank. NOTE: to get a "clean" change from bank to bank press the bank number about a quarter of one count before the bar you want it to occur. Now, all you have to do is play "live" the appropriate song, and/or piano accompaniment either by using other tracks separate or the pre-chosen voices on Right 1, 2, and left. (I sometimes "vamp" piano on one track, then play the tune on another track, and then if I feel I could add brass/ strings etc I put them down on separate tracks.)(These tracks would be done in realtime) When you reset your sequenced work, ensure that the screen shows the correct rhythm to start with, other wise the intro can cut out. (2.) The 2nd method is to pre-choose your rhythms & settings into each of the panel memory banks, and "realtime record" your medley but then you have to manually change each of the banks when you need to change patterns. BUT, if you make a mistake in chording, there is no "chord layout" to edit hence step recording!! I hope this is all making sense!! Now, next prob. is if you upgrade your keyboard, needless to say the rhythms in your banks (if chosen from the factory settings) are not necessarily going to match. So what I do is "copy" the appropriate patterns into the custom memory, (on "expand" - that way it takes the intros & endings fill ins etc) and input those rhythms from the "custom memory banks" and put those into the banks. That way you will have all your patterns that will play on another keyboard!! Whew!! PS, I have also successfully done a medley going from 8 beat to waltz and back again, but, I had to be in the appropriate bank when step recording that portion of the medley. (I think that's where track 6 comes in, where you tell it whether you want 3/4 or 4/4 at a particular bar!!) |
