THE QUESTION: I have a major problem with my KN5000 midi message sending. I cannot get the machine to remember midi channel assignments from one song to another. I have the Hard Disk fitted and all was fine until I did an archive back-up to my computer through the TechManager software. I got a message to initialise at the end of the back-up which I usually ignore. For some reason, this time I did it. Well, gigging on Saturday night was a disaster! I could not get my Vocalist or FX unit to respond! For a sequence, I usually set track 14 to 14 midi out and track 15 to 16 midi out. For a composer, I have Rt2 set to 16 midi out and Left set to 14 midi out. Now, for whatever reason, whenever I load a new song, the previous midi setting remains inspite of knowing in the past that the HD used to load songs complete with the required midi settings. I have over 300 songs and need to remedy the situation. How can I "un-initialsie" the keyboard (if this is the problem) to enable the HD to once more remember it's midi setting per song?

Please see page 176 of the owners manual for a discussion of the MIDI SETTINGS LOAD OPTION. Press the MIDI button at the keyboard menu selection on the right of the keyboard. This displays the MIDI Menu for the keyboard. Press PAGE to go to page 2 of the MIDI Menu. Then select MIDI SETTINGS LOAD OPTION. This option specifies how MIDI data is handled when data is loaded from disk. Both of the two top settings should be set to YES so that any changes in midi settings from file to file will correctly set up the keyboard for the file being loaded from disk.

| A COMMENT FROM BOB: Thank you Alan, for solving this problem. It is a very obscure setting that is easily missed. |
