Transposing With a Vocalist
The Question: I primarily use the Vocalist in "Chordal" mode. If I play the KN5000 in a "non transposed" mode the correct chord is sent to the Vocalist and the Vocalist produces great sounding harmonies. If I use the transpose buttons on the KN5000 to change the key, the KN5000's sound output changes correctly but the APC chord data that is sent to the Vocalist is still in the original key. This obviously produces disastrous sounding (wrong key) dissonant backup harmonies against my lead vocal. Is there a way to get the KN5000 to send out the chord data to match the transposed settings? | You can use the MIDI PRESETS page to select a factory preset for setting the KN5000 to send APC chords on midi channel 1 to the Vocalist. In this preset, however, the option for sending transpose data is set to OFF. Let's start there though and fix the transpose data later. Select MIDI PRESETS at the MIDI MENU. | ![]() |
At the MIDI PRESETS page 2 change the settings to select VOCALIST and WITH APC. Press EXIT to return to the main MIDI MENU and then select INPUT/OUTPUT SETTING . |

| At the INPUT/OUTPUT SETTING page change the TRANSPOSE OUTPUT selection from OFF to ON. This will cause the APC chord that is sent to the Vocalist to be transposed to match the transpose setting at the KN5000. | ![]() |
| A COMMENT FROM BOB: I finally found a use for the USER 3 Setting. When you have finished with the setup for the Vocalist, put your setup in one of the user presets. See "MIDI SETUP SAVE" at the "How To" pages. | ![]() |
