Introduction

My favourite fish is Atlantic halibut Hippoglossus hippoglossus

	Halibut is one of the largest fish in the Northern Atlantic Ocean. The females can live for 50 years and become 3,5 meters long and up to 300 kg. Halibut farming is a growing industry in Norway.
The halibut spawns in 300-700 meter deep water along the Norwegian coast. The eggs hatch after only a short time and the larvae are then about 7 mm long and very thin. Click on the picture for more information and more pictures.

The white halibut meat is very good. Personally I prefer it raw in sashimi or sushi. Most people serve the fish fried. I also recommend it grilled.
