NORWAY-RUSSIA 2004/2005 - A bilateral exhibit featuring
common cultural history Norway and Russia have had close relations for more than 1200 years, and because of the great changes in Russia over the past 10 years, these relations now gives new opportunities within cultural cooperation, as well as within business and trade. In May 1999, Norway's Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik and Russia's Prime Minister Sergey Stapashin signed the agreement to produce a bilateral exhibit featuring the Norwegian and Russian common cultural history and their national relations throughout time. Norsk Folkemuseum in Oslo and the Russian Museum of Ethnology in St. Petersburg were given the honour of carrying out this joint venture. The exhibit was opened in Oslo in 2004, and was shown in St. Petersburg in 2005. Former Russian president Boris Jeltsin visited the exhibit in Oslo during a visit to Norway in mid-August 2004. Several arrangements were planned around the exhibition, and The MIG Register were asked if we could arrange a car show a Saturday or a Sunday during the late summer of 2004. We said yes, and the date was settled to Sunday 29. August 2004. The many Volgas, Pobedas and Moskviches of the 1950's and early 1960's came to Norway as a result of bilateral trade agreements between Norway and Russia and up through the 1970's as well, a good number of Russian made cars came to Norway. We gathered a small group of cars at the museum on the 29. of August, and two of the cars served as taxi cabs as well, bringing visitors to and from the city centre. The day turned out as a great success, to the museum and to The MIG Register. You can read more, and see some photos, in our Photo Gallery. You can also click into Norways largest newspaper, Aftenposten, who stated that the "The Russian vintage cars charmed us all". Follow this link to read the newspaper article. The magazine Norsk Motorveteran made a feature on the gathering as well. Read about it in no. 2/2005. A copy of the magazine can be ordered at norskmo@online.no . The web site bilhistorie.no covered the story as well. Read it here . gamle vognkortet er også et resultat av norsk-russisk samkvem. Under et
statsbesøk i Sovjet-Unionen i 1955 fikk daværende statsminister Einar
Gerhardsen, og hans handelsminister Arne Skaug, hver sin GAZ-12 ZIM 8-seter
i gave. This registration certificate is also a result of Norwegian-Russian relationship. During a visit to the Soviet-Union in 1955, the Norwegian Prime Minister Einar Gerhardsen, and his Minister of Trade, Arne Skaug, each got a GAZ-12 ZIM as gifts from the Russian government. In Oslo, the vehicles were registered as A-2947 and A-2948 and was in official service until the early 1960's. Today, this piece of paper is the only remain, as far as we know. |
