During the painting course in Henri Matisse's villa in Vence, France, Susan Ballou changed her mind. In the process of turning one masterpiece into another (by covering the first one and starting over), she passed this intermediary phase, which was duly photographed by an observant art expert.

One village was replaced by another. In the process, the former turned into an Atlantis-like mystery.
